| Location Description |
| Surrounding the shores of Lake Nagawicka, Delafield is a prime getaway for boaters, swimmers, hikers, bikers, diners and shoppers. Just 25 miles West of Milwaukee, 90 miles North of Chicago and 50 miles East of Madison, the state capital of Wisconsin. Lake Nagawicka is one of the jewels of this Lake Country, carved amid rolling, forested moraines left by Ice Age glaciers. Delafield is home to an eclectic colony of artisans, gourmet chefs, antique aficionados, entrepreneurs and storekeepers showcasing a myriad of creative wares. The bustling shops line in rows of larger structures, themselves acclaimed for their architectural styles of Greek Revival, Victorian and Williamsburg. The 115-mile Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive winds through Delafield, enabling visitors to enjoy the beauty, variety and geology of the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Southeast Wisconsin. Just one mile South of the city is Lapham Peak State Park. The Kettle Moraine and Lapham Peak were formed 10,000 years ago when a glacier retreated from Wisconsin. More than 1,000 acres of this hilly terrain are within Lapham Peak State Park. Visitors can climb a 45-foot observation tower atop the highest point in Waukesha County (1,233 feet above sea level) or enjoy excellent hiking, backpacking, and cross-country skiing on lighted trails. Hikers can access The Ice Age National Scenic Trail or the Glacial Drumlin State Trail for a day in the outdoors at Lapham Peak Park. These trails wind through wooded hills and bucolic meadows. Abundant bird life and wildlife can be observed from all trails, and guided bird hikes are held each spring. There are several prairie restoration sites and a butterfly garden. Developed in 1986, the Glacial Drumlin State Trail is one of the best bike trails in the state. Starting just outside Madison, the trail winds East for 52 miles, ending in the Fox River Sanctuary in Waukesha. The trail is open to bikers, walkers, joggers and roller bladders. |
