* Sunset Crater features incredible colorful lava fields formed by volcanic eruptions 900 years ago. (15 miles) * Oak Creek Canyon provides incredible sandstone formations along the scenic highway leading to Sedona. (20 miles) * Meteor Crater, formed by extraterrestrial impact, is three miles in circumference and 570 feet deep. The Apollo astronauts trained here. Museum, gift shop and snacks. (40 miles) * Montezuma Castle is an ancient "apartment house," built around 1100 A.D. (50 miles) * The Tuzigoot ruins, built between 1125 A.D. and 1400 A.D., hang from the side of a hill in a honeycomb of crude masonry walls and are now a national monument. (54 miles) * The Grand Canyon is a must-see, of course. Tour the rims or venture down (with proper preparation). A true wonder of the world. (80 miles)
